Sweet & Sour Friends

How apt is this blog title?? I was trying to think of a name for this layout and as the layout contains photo’s of my girls its so true that they are friends and sometimes they are sweet to each other but then there are those rather sour times!

I had a workshop a couple of weeks ago for Aimee and she wanted to do a scrapbook layout and as Aimee is 14 or 15 I thought I’d need to make it a bit bright and it was also the perfect opportunity to play with my butterfly dies!

So after grabbing my Sweet and Sour Specialty Designer Series Paper and my butterfly dies and with a little help from a sketch by Valerie Salmon at Got Sketch this is what I came up with …

Once I’d measured out the size the strips had to be it was rather quick and easy to put together. Mind you I think I need to take more photo’s of the girls (whether they like it or not) as I’m running out and most of them are a couple years old.  I was pretty impressed that when I’d finished Caitlyn raved how much she liked it and she hates the colour orange so that had to be a good thing – Aimee and her friends loved it too!

Now I know you cant see the layout too well but if you click on the image a larger one will open to give you a better view :)

How cool are the Stampin’ Up! Beautiful Wings and Beautiful Butterflies dies?? I just love playing with these and must say my Beautiful Wings Embosslits die has had a bit of a workout of late!

The bottom butterfly uses 2 butterflies from the Beautiful Butterflies die and the larger butterfly from the Beautiful Wings die and this one works so well with vellum.

Now as you know that sticking vellum down can be tricky as you can see the adhesive below – well this one I used just a bit of snail in the middle and then applied the rhinestones to cover the adhesive below – perfect!

This image you can see the dimension of the butterflies stuck together.

Now if you wanted to you could apply this layout to a canvas or pop it in a shadow box frame so you could keep the wings up on your butterfly.  I have mine in my album and it still looks good and can see the three layers – they are just lying flat.

Now the butterfly in the top right corner again is one from each die – the smaller one from the Beautiful Butterflies and the larger one from the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.

I have again used snail to stick them together and just applied the rhinestones to cover the adhesive showing through.

This is the layout that we will be creating at the Tween Scrap class during the school holidays on 21st April.  So if you are free or your daughter is free and would like to create this layout then please contact me to book your spot. Class will be $15 and if you spend $30 at the class you’ll get $5 back from the class fee!

If you cant make the class and would love to make this layout well you can purchase the kit with full instructions for just $10 plus postage.  If you wish to purchase the kit then please email me your mailing details and I will send you details on how to pay.

The Tween Scrap Class will be the first of my monthly Scrap Classes so if you’d like to attend those then please let me know – if I have enough participants I may just start a Scrap Club.  This will run similar to a Stamp Club where we will meet every month and each participant will agree to a minimum monthly spend and each month one participant will be the ‘hostess’ and receive the hostess benefits. I will also offer kits & instructions for each monthly Scrap Class.

Scrappy Workshop & win with Lara

Sorry for not posting in the last few days – its been busy here and so much has happened in the last week I am still trying to catch up!

A couple of lovely customers asked if I would do them a Scrapbook Workshop to which I just about fell off my chair but did agree to do one. They then  said they wanted a layout for a 10 year old boy!  Well I nearly fell off my chair – as you know I dont much Scrapbooking at all but I dont have boys so this was a little harder than normal for me.

I had a look through the 2010-2011 Idea Book & Catalogue and decided to go with the Celebrations DSP – it has lovely bright colours and lovely patterns. So once I’d decided on what paper I was using then I knew the colour combination I was using – Bashful Blue, Real Red, Old Olive and Pacific Point. Now I’m not really a ‘brights’ girl but these colours look so good together!

Dont you just love how Stampin’ Up! give all the colour swatches for each set of Designer Series Paper packs? makes our lives so much easier!

Now that I had the colours and papers worked out I had to think of a design – this is where sketches are so very handy!  I love to use sketches for cards and sketches make layouts come together so quickly rather than deliberating on what shape and what size and where! I love sketches by Valerie Salmon who owns the Got Sketch Blog so I went with one of her sketches. Not only does Valerie do the sketch but she shows samples using that sketch too.

This is the sketch I chose ….

Got Sketch #91

Here is the layout I came up with …..

I do hope you like what I’ve done as the ladies on Tuesday did and this made my heart smile.

Now if you’d like to book in a Scrapbooking Workshop then please dont hesitate to ring or email me to book in your date. I will even let you pick the theme!

Just a little reminder  ……

Dont forget about the “We Stamp for Lara” online extravaganza!

During all of November you will recieve tutorials for 30 different projects for just $25 and all proceeds go to the purchase of special equipment for Little Miss Lara May Dunn.  Lara has Cerebral Palsy as well as a few other conditions and would greatly benefit from a special chair to help her get around and be more involved not only with her family but also with others.

Join today and have the opportunity to win prizes – one of which is a brand new Big Shot Machine!

As a special thank you from me – if you join and leave a comment here then you will go in the running to win a lovely Flower Fusion kit full of gorgeous felt flowers in pink, blue and brown! This is valued at $29.95 and is no longer available to purchase so you’ll be winning a collectors item!

This is just from me so you’ll have to reply back here – I’ll announce the winner on Tuesday. You can join by clicking on the paypal button in my sidebar to the right.

Looking forward to sharing some fun creating times with you and helping Lara as well.

Love Sparkles

Last week I did a workshop for some lovely ladies from my Church and as part of the Workshop I demonstrated the Simply Scrappin kits using the gorgeous Love Sparkles Simply Scrappin Kit.

I love this kit and all the elements it has and the colours and the papers – its just gorgeous! Especially for anyone doing scrapbook pages for little girls and one of my favourite little girls is my gorgeous Emily!

Emily has a huge love for anything little and particularly little furry things!

You should see her Littlest Pet Shop collection – I’m sure we have more here than you’d find in the local Toys R Us!  or Uncle Pete’s store!

Everything you see here has come from the kit – well except for the photo. The paper, cardstock, adhesive die-cuts and decorative strip were all in the kit

This is a very simple and easy 6×6 layout to do using the Simply Scrappin kit -  and it probably took 5 minutes to create.

The hardest part was working out what photo to use!

I hope you like this little layout … it was fun to make and you could get these kits to show your kids how to scrapbook too!  Its a great way to get them started!

Have a wonderful long weekend!

It’s Here!!

It’s what we’ve all been waiting for now for a month and now we can share it with you and I am sure you will understand our excitement!

Its the new Autumn-Winter Mini Catalogue!

just click on the catalogue above to view online

How beautiful is it??

In addition to the many exciting new stamp sets and accessories found in the Autumn-Winter Mini Catalogue, I am very excited to introduce three new innovative products:

You are just going to love it all and the new product lines also open up a whole new world to add to your scrapbooking and cardmaking!

Now is a wonderful time to join STampin’ Up! because not only do you get such great value in your kit but you can now select stamp sets from the new Autumn-Winter Mini Catalogue as part of your kit! How cool is that?? So if you would like to get more information on becoming a Stampin’ Up! Independent Demonstrator and joining my “Stamp A Latte” team then please feel free to email or ring me.  There is no obligation to join – I am just happy to answer any questions you might have.

Do you want to see and touch all the new products but dont want to join? That’s not a problem – I can bring the goodies to you so you and your friends can see them up close and personal. You can have a play and we will even make some projects for you and your friends to take home – just ring or email me to arrange your demonstration.

If you would like your very own copy of the Autumn-Winter Mini Catalogue please contact me and I will deliver or post one to you.

You may remember last week and the Technique Challenge I did for the Soul Scrappers forum well here is the second layout I created.

I’ve created this layout using Washington Apple Designer Series Paper and the cute little Fox and Friends stamp set which is now available in the Autumn-Winter Mini Catalogue.

This set is so much fun to create with as those little critters are just so darned cute! I can see it being used for baby cards and gifts, birthdays, baby announcements and of course layouts remembering trips to Wildlife Parks and Zoo’s as I’ve done here.

Now that you can purchase this set in the regular wood mount (as we’ve always had) or you can now purchase it in Clear Mount which comes in a gorgeous DVD style cover for easy storage and now you’ll be able to fit so many more stamp sets in a small space so hubby will think you’re not spending as much – well I wont tell him if you don’t ;)

Now in celebration of the new Autumn-Winter Mini Catalogue we’ve arranged a couple of blog hops again with the Extra Special Australian Demonstrators group and you can start by visiting Andrea Buckland’s blog. Now when you’ve done the blog hop and visited and commented on each blog you then need to email Sharlene to advise her your contact details just in case you happen to be the lucky winner of the blog candy!  Now dont fret that I’m not involved in the hop this time as we will have another on 7th April which I will have something very purty to share with you!

Enjoy Mini Case

Enjoy Mini Case

I know its been a while since I posted and I do apologise for that – I have been extremely busy with classes, Stamp A Stacks and demonstrations. Not to mention the odd blog I’ve been setting up for friends! You may notice some changes here over the next week or so and would love your comments and thoughts on the changes.

Last week I did a demonstration for a friend who wanted a scrapbook page demonstrated. We did this page which is a ‘case’ from a layout in the Mini Spring Catalogue.

For those who dont know ‘CASE’ simply means Copy And Share Everything!

I figured my customers were sick of seeing photo’s of my girls so I thought I’d share another family member. Now as the ladies were looking at the layout I’d completed one said “Wow you look so different without your glasses on!” I giggled and said yes and five years younger!! That’s my little sister and her hubby in that photo! We were all together for my niece’s wedding in January. Now I’ll soon know if she reads my blog wont I?? :D

As I was copying the layout which I originally thought was a 6×6 layout I worked out the circles to be the same size as the journal stamp and there was no way they’d fit on a 6×6 layout. So I grabbed myself a 12×12 sheet and after laying all the pieces out figured it wasnt a 12×12 either so it could only be an 8×8 layout. Now I know we only have 6×6 or 12×12 albums but I thought we’d still do this as the workshop project and I could then show the ladies how to convert the layout to a 12×12 for their albums.

So here are some samples of what you can do with a smaller layout to make it into a 12×12 layout.

Matted onto Olive

Thanks for stopping by … now to wait for my sister’s message ;)

Always in my heart

Yesterday I shared the Wallet Card we made at Friday night’s demonstration. Today I’d like to share the layout I demonstrated at that same demonstration.

The preparation for this one was a little emotional for me as I knew what stamp I wanted to use and thought that using a photo of Daniel would fit this layout perfectly. I was ok until I came across a photo taken at the funeral of my eldest daughter with tear filled eyes.

This is a very simple layout to do and great for those just starting to scrap or those unsure of using stamps in their layouts- sadly there are some people out there afraid to use stamping in their layouts.

6x6DanielStamping in your layout allow you to make it your own and not one you’d see anywhere else.

The base of this layout is Blue Bayou textured cardstock – I just love the new textured cardstock from Stampin’ Up! its so subtle and lovely to use. I have then taken a piece of Soft Sky (4 7/8″ square) and used the ‘Its Beautiful’ wheel from the Mini Catalogue with soft sky classic ink.

I do my wheelin on an angle and off the edge of the paper to give the continuation you’d get from patterned paper. Many of my customers say they thought its patterned paper I have used and are pleasantly surprised to find that I have made it and how easy it is to make.

I stamped the heart stamp from ‘Always’ (mini spring catalogue) and then embossed it. Although all the classic inks are dye based inks you can still emboss with them just by stamping in versamark first then stamping in the classic pad then onto your paper – you just need to remember to clean your stamp before doing it again or else you end up with lovely stamped images on your versamark stamp pad!

I’ve used my markers to colour each part of the word stamp so I could have half the sentiment on the top of the layout and the other half at the bottom. I’ve then finished off the layout using the photo corner punch and vanilla taffeta ribbon.

Daniel was our baby we lost at 35 weeks gestation. He had Trisomy 18 which wasnt detected until I was 34 weeks along. As you can appreciate it was a very difficult time for all of us and we still have our moments – usually around his birthday – its been a long hard road to travel and without my friends, family and my faith I doubt I would still be here. Joining Stampin’ Up! has also helped me heal and grow not only in my stamping but my life, confidence and friendships.

Wild Rose

friendslayoutTomorrow is my first class of the month and this is what we are doing – I do hope the ladies like it.

With the class being so early in the month and so soon after the release of the new catalogue we opted for a stamp set that would be carried over into the new catalogue and use up some of the lovely papers from the 2007 catalogue.

The papers used here are from the Recollections Designer Series Paper which goes so nicely with the Wild Rose Stamp Set used here.

The ladies will be completing this layout and making 5 cards – bit like a build your own Stamp-a-Stack!

Stamp Sets: Wild Rose, Cheers & Wishes, French Script
Cardstock: Kraft, Naturals Ivory, Mellow Moss, Regal Rose

Using your scraps

We have been talking on one of my groups about the different ways to store your scraps or off cuts and what system is working the best. I’ve tried the file folders and ziplock bags and have found my current method the most productive so far.

scrapdrawers

I use a set of stationery drawers to pop my off cuts into and have a drawer for each Stampin’ Up! Colour family and another each for patterned papers and neutrals.

They are on my table so they are handy when I’m working to just pop the extra bits straight in the drawer and also if I’m looking for a small piece in a particular colour i know which drawer to open and rummage through.

The picture here isn’t that great but you can get the idea of how it is set up and what I’m talking about – well sorta anyways!
Your scraps and offcuts will come in handy when your layering, using punches, doing mosaics and the like. You can even run them through a crimper to make faux ribbon or thru the shredder for extra purty packing for presents & such.

6x6loveUEmily 1The other night I went through my patterned paper drawer and had enough in there to create this little 6×6 layout.

Mind you scrapping photo’s of this little cutie is that hard to do! I have just used the papers from the ‘Loves Me’ Designer Series Paper pack and a couple of stamps. These papers are in our Summer Mini Catalogue which finishes at the end of March so if you’d like some email or ring me to order them today – who could go wrong with pink & brown??

I cut strips 6×2 and used my corner rounder to make the different edges on them and then layered them over the top of each other and there it is – even the little circle embellishments are from the same paper pack which I have punched out with the 3/4″ circle punch and ‘lifted’ them with stampin dimensionals.

Makes a very quick and easy page – and with a smile like that who needs to write anything other than “love you”.

Your scraps can be used on anything and really should be used more often – besides you want to make sure you get your money’s worth when buying a pack of cardstock or patterned papers as you really dont want to be throwing it into the recycling.

Using your scraps can add a little touch to cards too and here are a couple of samples to show you what I mean.

4x4offcut       4x4lovedots

Now my soft subtles drawer is getting a little full so think I might have to go and make up some cards to use up some of those off cuts!
