Sweet Wedding Card

Morning Everyone!!

Well its a tad chilly here this morning and I have so much to do before tonight’s workshop and thought I’d start off with a Coffee and a Blog post!

A couple of weeks ago we treated ourselves to a little weekend getaway. Well Hubby’s nephew was getting married on the South Coast so we took an extra couple of days to relax in and around Ulladulla on NSW South Coast.

Now when it comes to Wedding Cards you want to make them that extra little bit special and here is the card I created for the lovely couple

I used our Shimmer White Cardstock but wanted it more ‘shimmery’ so spritzed it with a mix of our Frost White Shimmer Paint and  Rubbing Alcohol.  It worked a treat so after punching out umpteen little flowers in Whisper White, Very Vanilla and Bashful Blue I spritzed them as well.  Now if you are going to do this technique you need to make sure you allow time for the spritzed pieces to dry before assembling the card other wise you will be assembling the card the morning you leave!

I’d only recently purchased the Elegant Lines embossing folder and now wonder why it took me so long to get it – it was perfect for this card! Dont forget to check out this month’s special for the Big Shot dies that are 10% off – just in time for Christmas too!! Just click on the advert in my sidebar for all the details!

Here we are all dressed up …

Now you couldnt go down to the South Coast without going to the Beach and as hubby and I used to have a caravan down at St George’s Basin (pre kids) we knew where to stop on the way home …

Hyam's Beach

Hyam’s Beach is known for its ‘white’ sand and is reported to be one of the Whitest sand beaches in the world! The water was so clear when we were there and there were some people not too far out  – about 100 metres – snorkelling and looking at the Octopus and Stingrays that were there!

While we were at the reception at Mollymook Beach on the Saturday we actually saw a whale jumping in and out of the water … actually Caitie was the first to see it. Pretty special.

It was a lovely weekend and Kat picked the perfect day as the weather on Sunday was a bit dubious and now I’m looking forward to freeing up a weekend here and there and taking a few more ‘breaks’.

Happy Valentines Day

I thought today would be appropriate to share these two cards.  Well when I say two cards its the same card just in two different colours.

Yesterday was the Engagement Party for my nephew James and the lovely Kat. It was a wonderful day and the happy couple were just beaming – they truely are a perfect match.

It was also timely that the Challenge blog – Just Add Ink have this week’s challenge as ‘Just Add Love

Here’s my card …

JAI-55

I love the Always stamp set and havent used it in a while and its the perfect set for ‘love’.  I also adore that heart stamp :) Its great for embossing or the direct to rubber technique.  I also added a couple of rhinestones to the image to make it that little bit special for James & Kat.

Here’s a close up of the heart to show you the rhinestones and the layers …

The heart is in two layers and mounted onto the white piece using Stampin’ Dimensionals to give it more depth.

Now I did say I made this in two colours and here is the other card made in Baja Breeze ..

Now I left the decision with hubby and the girls to choose which one to give and the Perfect Plum card was the winner. So at least with making two I still have the Baja one to show as a sample!

I heart …

Look at me – back again and four days in a row!

I have some very exciting news to share with you today – well to some its no longer news but I’m still over the moon about it! This past week I received an invitation to join a new Scrapbooking Forum and thought to myself ‘well I did say at Christmas I wanted to do more scrapbooking this year’ so off I went and joined.

A day or so later I get a message from the forum owner (Erika Martin) and she asks me if I’d like to be on the Soul Scrappers Design Team!! Well after picking myself off the floor I did check with her first to ensure she had the right person and she said YES!!! Soooo I said Yesssss too! Its a huge honour to be asked to be on a Design Team for someone who does such awesome scrapbooking like Erika!

The forum is such a great place to be a part of and I’m still amazed at being on the Soul Team! They’ve already had some new challenges posted to the forum and they look really good – there will be sketch challenges, technique challenges, theme challenges and also some for Digital Scrapbooking. Now the one posted this past week that I wanted to have a go at was the “About Me Challenge” from Erika.

I originally was going to start with a brown theme and baroque motifs however after pulling out umpteen different Designer Series Papers I opted to go with colours that match my photo’s and couldnt work out a title for me so I figured for a page about me I should share the things I love so I immediately thought of the Love Sparkles Simply Scrappin kit – if you remember I used this for yesterday’s Utah Divas Sketch challenge card.

I couldnt get a patterned paper to work from the kit so I went through my stash (and believe me this took some time!) I opted for the pretty floral paper from Candy Lane Desiger Series Paper pack.

I love these hearts!

The adhesive die cuts that come in the Simply Scrappin kits make any layout look good!  I’ve torn vellum to go behind the “I heart …” letters just to lift and make them stand out better. All the things I love were printed and cut up and I put the small adhesive die cut  hearts on each one.

Its been so long since I’ve done a layout it was good to sit down and play with photo’s and paper again – I even found the little photo printer we have and the photo paper without much searching which is a good thing considering we’ve just moved furniture around in the house and this is a sure way to put something in such a safe place that it can never be found again! I’m sure you know what I mean.

Now if you’d like to do more scrapbooking or even learn how to do it why not come and join Erika’s new forum at Soul Scrappers or just click on the Soul Scrappers banner below or over in the sidebar on the right.

ESAD Colour Challenge

Good Morning all …. well today is going to be a big day – My oldest has her first day of High School so no doubt that will be a whole new adventure for all of us! Miss 10 starts 5th Grade – and mum has a day all to herself!!

I want to thank everyone who managed to survive the Saleabration Blog Hop on Monday – it was huge and we had so many new visitor and comments. Now you can still do the blog hop to be in the running for the Blog Candy as this closes on Friday. You can start here and will need to leave a comment on each blog then email me to advise you finished and I will put your name into the draw for the Blog Candy. Now be prepared as there are 41 blogs involved so you’d better go get a cuppa and some bikkies! I promise next time it wont be so big!

I have set a colour challenge to all the girls on ESAD and thought I’d share it with you too in case you wanted to join in.

Make a card, 3d item or scrap page using the following colours ….

Here is my card for the challenge ….

It’s actually a case of a card that the gorgeous Shelli Gardner (Stampin Up! CEO) demonstrated at Leadership recently in USA. I’ve used the lovely new “I {heart} Hearts” stamp set – this is also the set to purchase help raise funds for the Haiti Disaster Relief fund.  I love this set – it coordinates so well with the Stampin’ Up! heart punches.

Now if youre playing once your item is finished upload your project to your blog or online gallery like flickr or photobucket then come back to this post and leave a comment with the link to your project to be in the running for the prize. I should have known the first time I use Mr LInky it would go MIA – I cant even get their site to load so my apologies for that.

You have until 31st January to create and upload your item and I will announce a winner – the lucky winner will receive a small prize in the mail.

Always Gift Card

My apologies for not posting more often this week – this past week was such a busy one with Stamp A Stacks, Year 6 Farewells, special school presentation and then to top it off I ended up coming down with this horrid flu bug which I’m still trying to recover from – I just hope its cleared up before we leave for holidays next weekend.

AlwaysEmbossedCardHolderI did mention in a previous post that I had to make two gift card holders for my niece & nephew recently and here is the second one I made.

I just love how this card turned out!  The gift card holder was for an engagement present so I wanted to make it a little extra special and elegant and think I achieved that.

This card has two types of embossing on it. Firstly on the Baja Breeze background I clear embossed the berry branch stamp from the Always stamp set using versamark and clear embossing powder.

The Baja Breeze panel across the middle of the card and the white layer behind the heart are both embossed using the Big Shot and a dotty embossing folder.

The heart is embossed using Versamark then Stampin’ Up!’s white embossing powder. I’ve stamped and embossed it twice and layered one flat on the white layer then the other I’ve actually cut the dotted edge around the heart off and layered it with Stampin Dimensionals.

AlwaysEmbossedCardHolderInsideHere is the inside of the card …

I’ve just added a couple of  layers to the inside of the card and used my slit punch to make the slits to hold the gift card in place.

You could leave these layers out if you just wanted to make this as a card and I think it would make  lovely Wedding card also.

AlwaysEmbossDiff

Now you might ask why I stamped in Versamark then used the white embossing powder when I could have stamped in the White Craft ink then embossed in white or clear embossing powder. Well I have found you get a much better and clearer image when using the Versamark with the white embossing powder.

This image here shows the results of  three different ways of embossing the heart on the Baja Breeze. The image top left is using White Craft ink with the White embossing powder.

The image bottom left is using the White Craft Ink and clear embossing powder and the image bottom right is the one i prefer using the Versamark ink and the white embossing powder.

I made this sample to show you the different results so sometimes you just have to test different methods to get a clearer image.

Elegant Prayers

Good Morning!!

Today I’m off to do a Stamp A Stack for one of my Aunts and I’m sure the other Aunt will be there too … and hopefully some apple pie!

This is a card that I made a few weeks back for a demonstration for some local church ladies. This card has a few layers to it however the end result is very elegant and its not hard at all!

eggplantpaleplumprayersHopefully the ladies today will agree with me!

It just uses the lovely Thoughts and Prayers stamp set and I decided that I hadnt made a ‘purple’ card for a while so I had better before I forgot how!

I’ve used the Eyelet Border Punch along the bottom of the Pale Plum piece which I’ve then daubered around the edge in Perfect Plum.

The sentiment is stamped in Elegant Eggplant which was then punched with the large oval punch and then layered on a elegant eggplant piece which has been punched with the scalloped circle punch from the Spring Mini Catalogue.

The main image was done using the Stampin Write markers direct onto the stamp and then stamping it onto the Very Vanilla piece. Then without reinking I’ve huffed and stamped on the long thin piece twice. I’ve then daubered the edges of both panels with the pale plum ink.

This card makes a great card for any occassion – not just for prayers. You can put any sentiment on the oval piece for whatever occassion you have need of a card for.

Resisting Fifth Avenue Floral

Well with a subject like that I could say that ‘resistance is futile’ when it comes to Fifth Avenue Floral! Its a wonderful stamp set and it can be used in so many ways and its just so very versatile.

For today’s Stamp A Stack my sister requested a card that could be used for Engagement congratulations and could be adapted for other occassions. So I put my thinking cap on and remembered a card I saw on the lovely Dawn Griffith’s blog.

Here is what the girls will be making today – well one of the cards at least!

5thAveCherish-CrayonResistThis card is done using the Crayon Resist technique and I’ve done it on gloss cardstock.

On Dawn’s video tutorial she says you can do this technique on whisper white cardstock so I did try that as well but found the sponging came out alot smother and softer on the gloss cardstock.

Recipe

Stamps: Fifth Avenue Floral, Greetings Eight, Warm Words
Cardstock: Basic Gray, Pirouette Pink, White Gloss, Whisper White
Ink: Baja Breeze, Going Gray, Jet Black Stazon, Pretty in Pink, Pirouette Pink
Accessories: White Oil Pastel, Stampin Sponges, Large Oval Punch, Scalloped Oval Punch, Pink Taffeta Ribbon, Facial Tissue

I really love how this turned out and the colours – its so soft even with the gray rose in the centre.Where I have the word cherish on the oval it actually has the pencil hearts from Greetings Eight behind the word. I inked up in Pirouette Pink and then stamped off first before stamping onto the whisper white piece so there’s two faint hearts behind the word.  If you didnt want the hearts you could do it with any smaller image just to give it a little more style.

With just using the word cherish its suites any occasion – birthday, wedding, engagement, anniversary or get well or even just a thinking of you card!

If you would like to learn how to do the Crayon Resist technique then please feel free to contact me to arrange your class or demonstration.

Now I’d better get off this pc and finish my packing and get myself of the road to my sister’s place!

Till next time ….

Bushfire Appeal

Most of you would have seen and heard about the devastation and loss of life due to the terrible bush fires in the past week in Victoria. Although I dont know anyone that has been personally affected my heart does go out to everyone who has lost friends, family, loved ones, pets and property. The stories I’ve read are just heart wrenching and I get tears every time I think about it. I think most Australians are still in shock as we all feel so much for those personally affected. I suppose this could be partially why I have felt so down/sad this week and have had very little motivation to do anything.

The Australian demonstrators put it to Stampin’ Up! to see if they could help as a whole and being the company with heart that it is they have offered assistance by donating 50% of sales on ten pre-selected stamp sets.

So from today until the 31st March when you purchase any of the following stamp sets Stampin’ Up! will donate a full 50% of the retail value to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfires 2009 Appeal.

bushfireappealsu

You will notice a couple of my favourite sets in there too so expect to see a few more samples with those sets in them over the next month or so.

The items you see in that list with an asterisk (*) beside them are sets that will retire come 31st March so if you want any of these be quick as supplies of these sets are limited so they will only be available while stocks last.

You dont have to have a demonstration or workshop to order you can email or ring your order through to me at any time and I will also waive the shipping/freight costs on orders when ordering any of these stamp sets.

So you can do a little to help by ordering these stamp sets today.

Here are a few cards I’ve made using some of these stamp sets.

I know this situation has touched your heart as it has mine and do hope you will help with this very worthwhile cause.

Diva Sketch #16

Here we are again at another Sketchy Saturday and another challenge for me. You will be pleased to know I remembered ‘not’ to use the Wanted stamp set – see sometimes my brain does function!

Here is the sketch.

Doesnt look too hard now does it? Well its not really and the idea for this card had been bouncing around in my head for a few days – I just hadnt thought of the squares but it adapted well I think.

Here’s my card.

Blue without YouSquares look easy till you start cutting and layering! It was a little fiddly but I think its turned out quite cute.

Now before you ask … that saying is not from any stamp set. Its one I made up and printed out.

    Recipe

Stamps: Love Owl-ways
Paper: Brocade Blue, Pretty in Pink, Bashful Blue, Whisper White, Water colour paper
Inks: Stazon Jet Black, Pixie Pink, Tempting Turquoise
Accessories: Bashful Blue grosgrain, aqua painter, dimensionals.

It turned out a little different to the sketch but I think if I did the card exactly like the sketch Alicia would fall off her chair and we cant have that happening now can we???

Have a peaceful sleep as tomorrow is going to be another stinkin hot day again … I am looking forward to Monday as its only going to be 30°C – which is around 90F (for my American friends)

Flowing hearts

When I saw this set for the first time I reconsidered buying it as we dont do much for valentines day here in this household so I wondered how much I’d use this set. Well needless to say I was wrong – just dont tell the kids!

Really we dont need it to be Valentine’s Day to tell those close to us that we love them so going on that theory this set could be used throughout the whole year and not just on February 14!

pinkhappyheartflower

I dont think this set has been put away in the last week and I do hope you’ve enjoyed the cards I’ve made using it.

This flower stamp here reminds me of our dandelions (or lawn daisies as my sister calls them) after they’ve flowered and gone to seed.

When we were little we used to pick them and blow the rest of the seeds off and however many were left there was some significance but now it escapes me – I’m sure someone will remember and let me know. Now if you leave me a comment and it is the right answer I will send you a card just like this one – but without my Cherished Teddies (sorry).

I used my markers to just colour the flower & stem then stamped it onto whisper white cardstock. I did the same with the words. If you would like to see how to use your markers more or more effectively then drop me a line and we’ll book you in for a demonstration or technique class

With the flowing hearts I used just the flying hearts bit of the stamp and coloured it with my Rose Red Stampin Write Marker and started stamping from the top right corner of the Pretty in Pink Cardstock piece. I stamped those hearts three times to give the flying/floating look as if they had been blown off the flower.

I have just realised that this card uses just the one stamp from the A Happy Heart set which is in the Summer Mini Catalogue. I’ve just used each part of the stamp separately and spaced out the elements.

I had visioned this card in my mind before doing it and surprisingly it turned out just as I had imagined and much nicer than I expected and I hope you like it too.

Elegant Valentine

Further to yesterday’s post about the sponged hearts I went and added a couple of things to the heart card using A Happy Heart from the Summer Mini Catalogue.

Here’s the before look ….

vintagespongedhearts

Now here’s the new and improved look … with a little bit of WOW (even if i do say so myself)

vintagespongedheartshatpin1

Its amazing how just adding a couple of embellishments to a card really lifts it. The hat pin, pearls, clear beads and flower all came from the Pretties Kit and it really should come with a warning as to how sharp those hat pins are when you take the bottom cover off.  I have hat pin wounds to prove it but I will survive!

The “love you” stamp is from the Sealed with a Kiss stamp set from the Idea Book & Catalogue.

Dont forget valentines day is in just 6 weeks so why not email me your wish list – and dont forget to include the Sale-a-Bration sets you’d like and then just tell your hubby, spouse, boyfriend to contact me to arrange your present!  Couldnt be easier could it??

Have a great weekend.

Always in my heart

Yesterday I shared the Wallet Card we made at Friday night’s demonstration. Today I’d like to share the layout I demonstrated at that same demonstration.

The preparation for this one was a little emotional for me as I knew what stamp I wanted to use and thought that using a photo of Daniel would fit this layout perfectly. I was ok until I came across a photo taken at the funeral of my eldest daughter with tear filled eyes.

This is a very simple layout to do and great for those just starting to scrap or those unsure of using stamps in their layouts- sadly there are some people out there afraid to use stamping in their layouts.

6x6DanielStamping in your layout allow you to make it your own and not one you’d see anywhere else.

The base of this layout is Blue Bayou textured cardstock – I just love the new textured cardstock from Stampin’ Up! its so subtle and lovely to use. I have then taken a piece of Soft Sky (4 7/8″ square) and used the ‘Its Beautiful’ wheel from the Mini Catalogue with soft sky classic ink.

I do my wheelin on an angle and off the edge of the paper to give the continuation you’d get from patterned paper. Many of my customers say they thought its patterned paper I have used and are pleasantly surprised to find that I have made it and how easy it is to make.

I stamped the heart stamp from ‘Always’ (mini spring catalogue) and then embossed it. Although all the classic inks are dye based inks you can still emboss with them just by stamping in versamark first then stamping in the classic pad then onto your paper – you just need to remember to clean your stamp before doing it again or else you end up with lovely stamped images on your versamark stamp pad!

I’ve used my markers to colour each part of the word stamp so I could have half the sentiment on the top of the layout and the other half at the bottom. I’ve then finished off the layout using the photo corner punch and vanilla taffeta ribbon.

Daniel was our baby we lost at 35 weeks gestation. He had Trisomy 18 which wasnt detected until I was 34 weeks along. As you can appreciate it was a very difficult time for all of us and we still have our moments – usually around his birthday – its been a long hard road to travel and without my friends, family and my faith I doubt I would still be here. Joining Stampin’ Up! has also helped me heal and grow not only in my stamping but my life, confidence and friendships.
