Gum Blossoms

This is the third card I’ve made using the new Bloom Away stamp set.

Its a stamp of our gorgeous Gum Blossoms which flower on the Eucalyptus trees – these are the trees native to Australia and which we get Eucalyptus oil from  Eucalyptus leaves contains compounds that are powerful natural disinfectants and which can be toxic in large quantities. The Eucalyptus is also the home of our beloved Koala’s and Possoms. Eucalyptus flowers produce a great abundance of nectar, providing food for many pollinators including insects, birds, bats and possums. Also, in summer when the temperatures rise the oil rises above the bush to create the characteristic distant blue haze of the Australian landscape – this is why we have what is called “The Blue Mountains” on the outskirts of Sydney. Eucalyptus oil is highly flammable (some trees have been known to explode) and bush fires can travel easily through the oil-rich air of the tree crowns which was evident recently with the Victorian Bush Fires.

The Eucalyptus also has many different types so the colours in the flowers can vary from white to dark red and the bark on the trees vary from smooth to rough and some have what looks like coloured squiggles all over them. Some can grow to a height of over 80 metres and are an evergreen tree so always covered in leaves giving lots of shade and a continual food supply for those animals who live in them.

gumblossomsSo there’s a bit of Aussie knowledge for you … and no I wont be doing a test later!

Back to the card ….

With this card I’ve stamped the image twice next to each other in the top right of the whisper white piece. I’ve then stamped this image again on another piece of whisper white, coloured & cut it out and layered it using Stampin’ Dimensionals over the other two images to give the effect of it being on a branch.

I’ve used Chocolate Chip for the base card then layered Pink Pirouette and Kiwi Kiss. The ribbon is the Mellow Moss Taffeta ribbon. The sentiment is from the God’s Blessings stamp set.

I do hope you like this card and have enjoyed the last couple of posts using the other stamps from the Bloom Away stamp set.  I’ve loved colouring these lovely images and sharing my creations with you. I know youre just going to love the new Idea Book & Catalogue and I am looking forward to sharing some more with you in the upcoming weeks.

Bloom Away

tangerinebanksiaAs soon as I saw this new Bloom Away stamp set I knew I had to have it!

I love native flowers – which I think is one of the good things I inherited from my mum – unlike the excema, psoriasis and the other lovelies! You gotta love genetics hey??

Here’s a card I’ve made using the Banksia stamp from the Bloom Away stamp set which will be in the new 2009-2010 Idea Book & Catalogue – and no I havent received my pre-order yet and hoping it will be here soon!

This set consists of the Banksia stamp shown here and a Waratah and Gum Blossoms. All much loved flowers from the Australian bush. Maybe next year we can get some more with maybe some Wattle, Kangaroo Paw and the Flannel flower to name a few – I’m sure you too have your own favourite Australian Native flower.

This card I’ve done here is to send to a demonstrator friend in USA who has her birthday next week and also recently had her mother pass away so this will be a card that none of her USA demo friends will have sent her.

The colours I’ve used here are all from the new 2009 In Colours – Tangerine Tango, Kiwi Kiss, Pacific Point and Riding Hood Red.

I hope you like this card and I hope the recipient will too.

Are you getting excited about the new catalogue? I know I am! If you havent done so already email me to reserve your own copy or why not arrange a demonstration in April or May and get your copy for fleoniesig1ree!
