Outlaw Mini Pocket Books

minipocket1

I just love to make these little minibooks and they are great for any occassion.

I ran some classes last year making them and one of my regular groups asked for them again but in different papers and they chose the outlaw papers. I love the rustic look of these papers and will miss them when they retire next week.

I’ll miss alot of the Designer Series Paper packs that we’ve had this past 12 months but I will tell you that the new papers are just divine and there is a new special textured pack in the upcoming catalogue as well so cant wait to get my hands on those!

I have also used some of the retiring stamp sets to complete the project and the sets I used are Forever in my Heart and Sealed with a Kiss. I also used A Happy Heart from the Summer mini catalogue.

Now if you want any of the items used in this project they will all be retiring/finishing on 31st March so that gives you just one week to get your order and payment to me.

Remember to check the retirement list to make sure you have got all the sets that you want in your collection as I wont be able to order them after 31st March and they are only available while stocks last.

Flowing hearts

When I saw this set for the first time I reconsidered buying it as we dont do much for valentines day here in this household so I wondered how much I’d use this set. Well needless to say I was wrong – just dont tell the kids!

Really we dont need it to be Valentine’s Day to tell those close to us that we love them so going on that theory this set could be used throughout the whole year and not just on February 14!

pinkhappyheartflower

I dont think this set has been put away in the last week and I do hope you’ve enjoyed the cards I’ve made using it.

This flower stamp here reminds me of our dandelions (or lawn daisies as my sister calls them) after they’ve flowered and gone to seed.

When we were little we used to pick them and blow the rest of the seeds off and however many were left there was some significance but now it escapes me – I’m sure someone will remember and let me know. Now if you leave me a comment and it is the right answer I will send you a card just like this one – but without my Cherished Teddies (sorry).

I used my markers to just colour the flower & stem then stamped it onto whisper white cardstock. I did the same with the words. If you would like to see how to use your markers more or more effectively then drop me a line and we’ll book you in for a demonstration or technique class

With the flowing hearts I used just the flying hearts bit of the stamp and coloured it with my Rose Red Stampin Write Marker and started stamping from the top right corner of the Pretty in Pink Cardstock piece. I stamped those hearts three times to give the flying/floating look as if they had been blown off the flower.

I have just realised that this card uses just the one stamp from the A Happy Heart set which is in the Summer Mini Catalogue. I’ve just used each part of the stamp separately and spaced out the elements.

I had visioned this card in my mind before doing it and surprisingly it turned out just as I had imagined and much nicer than I expected and I hope you like it too.

A new Heart

Well I did promise yesterday I’d share something new so here it is!

I was wanting to make a nice feminine card for valentines day and wanted to use the stamp set A Happy Heart which was featured in yesterdays post. I wanted to show you how you can make very different cards with just the one stamp set and a couple of accessories.

So I went to playing with my heart and ink pads. I tried the ‘rock n roll’ technique and thought no its not what i was after as the edging was too dark. So I was sitting at my desk wondering what else to do when my eyes spied a piece of the stampin sponges and thought oh I’ll sponge around the edge and see what that looks like – and as you know I love the sponging look. Instead of sponging around the edge of the cardstock I spongedheartssponged a deeper colour directly onto the stamp then stamped it onto the cardstock and I just went oh thats nice as I was using Pretty in Pink in the Centre then sponging the Regal Rose on and it was very purty.

I got to thinking what other colour combinations I could use and so I inked up the heart stamp in Apricot Appeal and then sponged around the edge in Regal Rose and went oh wow I love that! Caitie came to see what I was working and then she grabbed the stamp, inks and sponges and went to make some of her own! You can actually make these hearts deeper using a third/darker colour to do just the edges with a small sponge or dauber.

I love some of the combinations she came up with so I thought I’d cut them all out and show most of them to you – so here’s an image of some of the combinations we came up with. She did one using Chocolate Chip and Pink Passion and it immediately reminded me of a Cherry Ripe bar – now don’t ask me why cos I don’t actually like Cherry Ripe’s!

This is the card I came up with using this technqiue and the heart. I’ve also used the En Francais Background Stamp and Pretty in Pink Taffeta Ribbon.

Its soft and elegant and has the look I was after but I think it needs a little something and while typing this post it came to me – a hat pin and some pearls will set it off nicely and give it that extra wow …. and maybe a little ‘love you’ down the bottom right corner. I will post another photo when I’ve added those pieces.

I hope you like this card and please do try out the sponging technique as I’d love to see what you come up with. You could use it on any stamp that has a solid image/background – the baroque background stamp would look good in this or even the brocade basics stamp set – maybe I’ll email Nikki Stalker and get her to give it a go.

Leave a comment with a link to your blog showing your finished card using this technique and I’ll post all the links on Monday so everyone else can see what you’ve done!

If you’d like to see how this technique is done then why not contact me today to arrange your demonstration – dont forget January and February are Sale-a-Bration months and you can earn free stamps when you place an order of $100 or more or hold a qualifying demonstration.
