Manly Ferry

Well ok not quite but I dare say all Ferries have been anchored tonite – its blowing a gale here to say the least!

I’ve often said how I struggle with cards for those of the male variety but when I saw this gorgeous a la carte stamp Sail Away I just knew it would be perfect for many males and being an a la carte stamp and sold by itself its very affordable and suites any budget!

You simply do just need to add Ink & Cardstock!

Here’s a great super queasy card ….

I made this card for Mel’s workshop on the weekend and it really was put together in just a matter of minutes so you could whip one of these up while youre having a cuppa if need be – and your coffee wouldnt even go cold!

You could use this card for absolutely any occasion from ‘Thinking of You’ like I’ve done to birthday wishes or even a sympathy card.

Its simply just four different colours in Cardstock and some Linen Thread and your done!  The colours I’ve used are Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler, Night of Navy and Confetti White Cardstocks.

What stamps do you always go for when making male cards?  and whats your favourite colour combination for those men folk?

ETA … Just thought I’d clarify the ‘Manly Ferry’ play on words for my International and ‘not so local’ blog visitors. In Sydney (where we live) there is a place called Manly and which is surrounded by beaches and a very popular holiday spot and tourist ‘must do’ and they have Ferries (water taxi’s) that go from one side of the harbour to the other and around circular quay. You can read more about Manly Ferries here.

Sweet & Simple

Firstly I am uber happy to report that my Sydney Swans last night were victorious overe the Brisbane Lions :)   by a wee margin of 65 points!! Way to go Swannies :)   I mentioned that game in yesterday’s post and I had a few comments saying they hope I enjoy the game and yup I did :)

Now onto today’s share … this is a very queasy card that will be done tomorrow at Sue’s workshop. Its a case of a card sample in the Idea Book & Catalogue (p69) and since the card in the catalogue was a small gift card I upscaled it to a regular sized card for the workshop.

When choosing the colours I remembered the pretty colour challenge #158 from Stamping 411

How pretty are these colours together … very ‘springy’ dont you think?

So here’s my card …

Recipe
Stamps: Pocket Silhouettes
Inks: Real Red
Paper: Whisper White, Peach Parfait, So Saffron, Real Red
Accessories: Stampin Dimensionals, Mini Glue Dots, Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack, Jewels – Pearls, Stampin Write Markers – Certainly Celery, Real Red, Peach Parfait, So Saffron

I do hope you like this card and now I’d best be off to make up the kits for tomorrows Workshop!

Have a wonderful Sunday

Strength & Hope Sketch

Here we are again at another Saturday and another Utah Divas Sketch Challenge but this one is a little special. I decided this week I’d use the Strength & Hope set and remind you about the wonderful Strength & Hope Campaign and how you can help.

Years ago it was always a shock to hear of someone who had Breast Cancer and sadly these days there arent many people who dont know someone who has either had the disease and survived or someone who has lost their battle against this horrible disease.  Many doctors/scientists are tirelessly working  to find a cure and here is how you can help.

Just by purchasing this gorgeous Strength & Hope Stamp Set you are helping raise funds to go to research for a cure – with every Stamp Set sold in every Stampin’ Up! marketStampin’ Up! will donate $2.00 to the National Breast Cancer Research Foundation – that means not only here in Australia but also in New Zealand, Canada, USA, Germany and the UK. Thats alot of demonstrators all selling these sets to help raise these much needed funds so if you’d like to help please contact me to purchase your stamp set today and help. Now for all the sets I sell I will also donate a further $2 per set to the McGrath Foundation here in Australia.

Now onto this week’s sketch …

Now … I know this will surprise some of you (especially Carol) I’ve flipped it and exchanged the long rectangle for a box but do hope you like what I’ve come up with …

You would not believe how hard it was to get a decent photo of this card and I’m still not entirely happy with this picture. The card is a very soft femine card and I’m afraid the camera just cant do it justice.

You can view the full details and all the links to the other Designing Divas at the Utah Divas International Blog here and the next Diva you need to skip along to is the lovely Ruthie … oh when you visit her blog be sure to wish her a happy birthday too!

Well I best go cook dinner so I can sit & watch the Swans game

From now until the end of June when you host a workshop and the sales come to $450 your hostess benefits get a special boost! You get a bonus $70 to spend – so instead of $40 to spend you now get $110 – but only till the end of June!

Another Hostess benefit you can earn is the free Hostess sets and one of those is the gorgeos Punch Potpourri set. This is a gorgeous set that has been designed specifically to use with a few of our Stampin’ Up! Punches and only available to Hostesses.

Growing Green

I had all good intentions to get this card done and the posted before lunch today however when hubby asks “Did you want to go to Officeworks?” well you dont ask why you just ‘do’!

Here is this week’s Utah Divas Sketch ..

I’ve known what stamp set I’ve wanted to use for this sketch all week but just wasnt sure on what colours to use.  Now I just didnt know what colours to use and thought I could use the Sweet n Sour DSP but think I’ve over used it with the Diva sketches and needed a change and I then thought “Oh I’ll use the Colour Coach”!

The Colour Coach has to be one of the most underrated tools in our Idea Book & Catalogue and I should share it more at my workshops.

It has a swatch for every colour we have in the Catalogue and its all held together by a metal post so when the new In Colours come out in September you can just add them in.

There are cards up the front that tell you how colours work and how you should choose the right colours to go together.

Now on the back of the swatches there is something special …

I dare say this is ‘why’ it was given the name of  ‘Colour Coach’!  Just look at all the choices you get!

There’s a Creative Combination and a Getting Started Combination as well as a Dynamic Duo – now there is one of these combinations on the back over every colour swatch.

How good is that? You’ll never be stuck for a colour combination again! Now did you know this is not only available to Demonstrators? its available to purchase from the Idea Book & Catalogue for just AU$28.95.

The colour I wanted to use was Pretty in Pink for the flower so I pulled out that card in my Colour Coach and went with the Creative Combination of Pretty in Pink, Certainly Celery and Bashful Blue.

I even went as far as to use the Dynamic Duo colour of Melon Mambo for my sentiment.

Here is my card …

I just love how this card turned out and really wondering why I havent used this Stamp Set before now? needless to say you will see quite a few more cards using this set in the future.

I do hope you like what I’ve done with this sketch and the colour combination and if you’d like to order a Colour Coach or the Growing Green stamp set then please feel free to drop me a line or give me a call.

Now dont forget what the other Designing Diva’s have created with this sketch and there are links on the Utah Divas Blog and the next blog to visit is the lovely Ruthie B and just keep following the links till you get back to here – dont forget to leave a comment for each of the Divas cos we all just lurv comments :)

Perk Up!

MMm I’m so lethargic at the moment I could use a Perk Up!!

You may remember on Wednesday I shared my ‘ikky’ Christmas Card and much to my surprise many of you liked it or maybe you were all just being nice and letting me down gently.

Anywho I loved that design and the card I’m sharing today actually is the first one I made in this design and fell in love with it – I made it for Nancy’s workshop last Friday and all her ladies loved the card and also happened to fall in love with the Lap of Luxury Designer Series Paper as well – funny that!

Here’s the card …

Oh how I love pink and purple together! I just love the Lap of Luxury DSP and will be sad to see it go in just 3 months! Oh my thats not long at all is it? So you’d better start stocking up now I think!

Now because you were all so lovely with the comments on my Christmas card I thought I’d share instructions on this card with you all so you can see just how easy it is to make.

You will need ….

  • A5 piece of cardstock for Base – I used Concord Crush
  • 4 strips of DSP 145mm x 50mm
  • Whisper White 60mm x 60mm
  • Concord Crush 65mm x 65mm
  • Pretty in Pink Scrap
  • Jet Black Stazon Ink
  • Concord Crush Classic Ink
  • Inks/Markers/Crayons for colouring
  • Curly Label punch
  • Morning Cup Stamp Set

Step by Step

  1. Fold A5 card in half & burnish with bone scorer
  2. Fold front of card back to fold line & burnish with bone scorer
  3. open card and layout & adhere dsp to sections (refer to image below for the patterns I used) and set aside
  4. Stamp Coffee Pot, mug and steam on whisper white
  5. colour as desired
  6. Adhere Whisper White layer to Concord Crush piece
  7. Stamp ‘Perk Up’ sentiment in Concord Crush onto Pretty in Pink piece & punch out using Curly Label punch. Adhere this piece to the back of your concord crush piece. Apply adhesive just behind the left side of the panel and adhere to front folded piece and your card is done!

You will notice on the above image of the opened card I used two pink pieces in the centre of the card – I’ve done this so you can easily write your message here and you have two panels if you need it. This way when the card is closed the message remains hidden.

I hope you like this card as much as I do and it really is a queasy design to do yet people who recieve them think they are wonderful as they are just a little different.

Let me know if you have any problems with the instructions and please share a link to the cards you make in this design as I’d love to see them by adding a comment and popping the link in there or email me a copy.

Happiness Shared – the tutorial

Back in Janaury I shared a card I created for my fancy folds class and just so you can remember or even see it for the first time here are some pix …

To view the original post click here

I had an early night last night so therefore when hubby started snoring at 3.30am I was awake so figured I’d get up and do some things – no use lying in bed getting frustrated cos I couldnt get back to sleep!

Well that idea was good in theory as all the ‘online’ stuff I couldnt do as we had no internet! Well to put it correctly “I” had no internet .. seems I shouldnt left hubby up alone with all those cables out last night! So I had to do things that didnt need the internet till 6.30am when hubby’s alarm goes off and I can safely wake him and advise of my issues.

Well this gave me the opportunity to get this card into a tutorial which I’ve been meaning to do since January and now you can have the tutorial too! There is a tutorial for a Swing/Flip Flop card on Splitcoast Stampers but it wasnt in metric measurements and it didnt fit in our standard envelopes so whats a girl to do but rewrite it to suite?

Just click on the link above to download the tutorial and enjoy.  Should you have trouble downloading or following the tutorial please let me know

Well yes I know today is Sunday but I really wanted to do this week’s Sketch from Utah Divas International Sketch Challenge.

I have been on the go since Convention finished last weekend and went for a quick trip over to see my family in Cobden, Victoria and pop in to see my mum in the nursing home – a rather emotional time.

Then Tuesday it was driving back to Avalon to catch my flight home but not before having a nice relaxing lunch with the lovely Mel Sharp – thanks Mel for coming and keeping me company at Avalon – just as well it was Tuesday and not Wednesday ey??

Wednesday I just relaxed and tried to catch up on some sleep then it was back into creating cards and making up kits for a Workshop on Friday night and today I’ve been busy creating & cutting up kits for tomorrow’s Workshop – see told you I’ve been busy!

Soooo … without further ado here is this week’s Sketch ….

Here is my card and one of the cards the ladies will be making tomorrow …

Inks: Jet Black Stazon, Elegant Eggplant, Perfect Plum

Convention Swaps

Well today is day two of the 2011 Stampin’ Up! Convention and I thought I’d share my swap cards I made.

This first one was made using a sketch from Cards n Things Sketch #76 and I couldnt go to Convention without making a swap using the gorgeous Morning Cup Stamp Set.

Paper: Elegant Eggplant, Pretty in Pink, Whisper White, Lap of Luxury DSP
Accessories: Aqua Painter, Rose Red Stampin Write Marker, Circle Punches (1″, 1 1/4″, 1 3/8″), Scallop Trim Border Punch

For my second card I wanted to make a masculine card so immediately went for the French Foliage Stamp Set

Another Nature Walk

Good Morning!

Well today will be a mad rush to ensure I’ve packed everything and done everything I need to do before tomorrow’s flight to Melbourne for the Stampin’ Up! Convention which starts on Thursday.

I wanted to pop in and share a card I made a little while ago using the Nature Walk Stamp Set and the Tulip Frame Embossing Folder both new in the Autumn/Winter Mini Catalogue.

I wanted to show how you can use the Tulip Frame Embossing Folder for making various sized frames and mats.

You simply cut your cardstock to a little larger than the mat/frame you want and line up 2 or 3 edges of the cardstock with the frame and run it through the Big Shot.

Then you line up the other edges and the pattern you’ve just created and run it half way or 2/3′s through the machine and then wind it back – dont put it all the way through as the last part will flatten what you did in the first pass. Oh I hope that makes sense … if not drop me a line and I’ll do some instructions when I get back from Melbourne.

This is a very queasy card and I’ve just used my Stampin Write markers to colour in the flower stamp and stamp it straight down and then stamp a sentiment at the bottom.

As you can see you could use this card for any occasion at all from Sympathy to Birthday to Get well.

Now I’d better get back to that to-do list so I dont leave anything behind tomorrow!

Nature Walk

What a busy week its been and its only going to get busier!

What do you think of the new blog look? Like it? I do … I have been looking for that right theme forever – well it seems like it anyways. Then when I was browsing the Studio Press site by Brian Gardner the other night I came across this Pretty Young Thing them and it was ‘oh yeah’ and I just edited the graphics and took the hearts off and inserted the coffee cups!!

This Wednesday I fly down to Melbourne for the 2011 Stampin’ Up! Convention – its for 3 days of total Stampin’ Up! awesomeness and I cant wait!  This year I have the pleasure of sharing it with my gorgeous friend and downline Libby Dyson and being Thursday is Libby’s birthday it will be extra special!

So as you can imagine its only going to be busier this upcoming week. Convention finishes on Saturday night with the Awards dinner and then Sunday I’m hiring a car and driving over to see my mum, dad and sister in Cobden – just a little 3 hour drive!  Now I think I might have to stop in Geelong for a cuppa! I fly home again the following Tuesday – lets hope the family survives that long and the house isnt a total warzone when I get back!

Here’s a card I made a little while ago for a swap on ESAD – sadly my swap cards still seem to be travelling as they never arrived – obviously the Postie decided they liked them enough to keep them himself.

I really enjoyed making this card. I just love collage stamping and putting all the elements together and then sitting back and looking at the end product.

There seems to be lots of stamps on this card however its just the Nature Walk Stamp Set (Autumn/Winter Mini Catalogue), Teeny Tiny Sentiments and the En Francais background stamp. I’ve also added a piece of the Botanical Gazette Designer Series Paper and how cute are those little Library Clips??

I hope you like this card as much as I enjoyed making it … now I must duck up to the shops to grab some socks and a couple of scarves as it appears as hundreds of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators from Australia and New Zealand descend on Melbourne so is a cold front! Talk about timing!!

Dont forget the great ‘Deals of the Week’ happening this week – just click the image in the sidebar or here to view them and dont forget they change each Wednesday so be sure to check back.

Now since I’ll be away you’ll need to email me your orders and from now until 20th May I am offering free postage on all orders so email or text me today with your order!
